New Family Orientation
We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Velocity Swimming! We hope you find the following information helpful as you get started.
Team Communication & Needed Apps
GroupMe: Our Primary Communication Tool
We highly recommend that parents join the Velocity GroupMe account. This is our direct messaging application used to send team communication, including last-minute practice updates (e.g., weather-related pool closures).
Must-Have Mobile Apps
This is the app version of our team website. You will use this to pay your bill, sign up for meets, and manage your account.
Essential for swim meets! This app allows you to view heat sheets, psych sheets, and live results for your swimmers. (Note: Requires a small annual subscription fee).
Use this to view your athlete's membership information, best times, and national/local rankings.
How We Operate: The Swimming Ecosystem
If you are new to the world of competitive swimming, the sport can sometimes feel like an alphabet soup of different acronyms. Here is how our club fits into the broader swimming community:
- USA Swimming (The National Level): This is the national governing body for competitive swimming in the United States. They set universal rules, provide insurance, and establish time standards. Every athlete at Velocity is a registered member of USA Swimming.
- Inland Empire Swimming / IES (The Local Level): IES is our specific Local Swimming Committee (LSC), governing eastern Washington and northern Idaho. They sanction our local meets, manage the officials, and track athlete performances.
- Velocity Swimming (Your Home Base): Operating under the rules of USA Swimming and competing within the IES, Velocity is where the day-to-day training, coaching, and team building happens!
